The Windsor Lancers battled hard and answered goals but ultimately fell 3-2 to the Western Mustangs at the Capri Pizzeria Recreational Complex Saturday afternoon.
 
The Lancers put plenty of pressure on net and gave themselves every chance, but the Mustangs made one more play, dropping the Lancers to 2-8-0-1 on the season.
 
GAME STATS
Western's Carmen Lasis had a day in net, stopping 42 of 44 shots she faced. Jaydin Spooner made 33 saves on 36 shots.
 
Kendi Lundell was the best Lancer on the ice, scoring both the Lancers' goals on the day.
 
GAME FLOW
The first period was a hotly contested affair between the Southwestern Ontario rivals. The Mustangs opened the scoring and took the game's first lead when Emma Thomas bested Spooner at the 7:40 mark in the first. Five minutes later it was Lundell pulling the game even, beating Lasis to tie the game. Both teams put plenty of pressure on net in the frame but they sat even 1-1 at intermission.
 
The second period was just as tightly contested as the first, with plenty of pucks on net and plenty of saves from both goaltenders in the opening minutes of the frame. Just under six minutes into the second, the Lancers went on a powerplay looking to grab the lead but were thoroughly disappointed, giving up a short-handed goal by April Clark. The shorthanded marker proved to be the difference at intermission as the Lancers trailed 2-1.
 
The Lancers battled hard in the third period, answering the Mustangs goal when Lundell lit the lamp for the second time.  Unfortunately, a late powerplay goal by Sydnee Baker put the Mustangs in front for the third time this season. The Blue and Gold had answered the prior two goals by Western but couldn't sneak one past Lasis, dropping the game 3-2.
