Lancers tame Lions in four sets

The Windsor Lancers improved to 4-3 this season on Saturday night with a big 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 21-25, and 25-20) home win over the York Lions.  The Lions drop to 3-4 after the loss handed to them by the blue and gold at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse.

GAME STATS
Pierce Johnson led the way offensively for the Lancers putting up 13 kills in the win.  Brad Gyemi also cracked double digits again in kills with 10 while Dami Alalade and Roland Bouchard added 7 each in the winning effort. Alalade and Nolan Langley also had a pair of service aces each. Langley dished out 32 assists to his teammates in the win. The Lions were led by Alexander Grzegorczyk who had 13 kills in the loss.

GAME FLOW
The first set started off back and forth with a mirage of missed serves sailing long or into the net from both sides. The friendly fire allowed both teams to remain in the set early on before the Lancers would buck up from the service line and allow York to pile on the errors. The Lancers went on the win the first set to hold a 1-0 lead in the match in front of a raucous crowd at the St. Denis Centre.

In the second set, the blue and gold would keep control throughout not allowing the intensity of the game to get caught up with them and managed to go up 2-0 in the match following strong consistent team play.

The third set was were the Lions came alive however, opting not to go home emptyhanded as they battled hard to take after gaining momentum following the technical timeout and made things interesting as the match was at 2-1 Lancers.

For the fourth set however, the Lancers would regain composure and take care of business at home sealing the deal to extend their current winning streak to 2-games and winning both games at home this weekend to close out the 2019 calendar year at home.
