The Windsor Lancers women's hockey team dropped an overtime decision at home Friday evening with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Laurier Golden Hawks.
Â
The Blue and Gold fought hard, twice answering one goal deficits to force overtime and gain a point, but it was the Golden Hawks walking away with the win. The loss drops the Lancers to 0-6-1 on the season.
Â
GAME STATS
Jaydlin Spooner led the game in saves, stopping 24 of the 27 shots she faced. Laurier's Cohen Meyers made 18 saves on 20 shots.
Â
Special teams were a big part of the game with the Hawks going 1/6 on the powerplay and the Lancers failing to convert on their four powerplays.
Â
GAME FLOW
The Golden Hawks got things going in a hurry, beating Spooner just 91 seconds into the game on a power play. The Lancers retaliated however, a minute and a half after the Hawks' goal, when
Olivia Lynch beat Meyers on a breakaway to tie the game at 1-1 early in the first. With under four minutes to go in the first, Laurier bested Spooner again when Emily Visser scored to make it 2-1 heading into intermission.
Â
In the second period the Lancers took an early penalty. While on the penalty kill
Jessica Gribbon got a hold of the puck and flew up the ice, putting the puck past Myers to tie the game at 2-2 on a short-handed beauty. In the third the Lancers doubled the Hawks in shots 8-4 but couldn't sneak one past Myers, settling for overtime. Unfortunately, Laurier's Aynsley Harrison ended the overtime period just 1:05 into the frame, beating Spooner and sending her Hawks home with a 3-2 win.
