Steer breaks OUA record; Lancers defeat Thunderbirds

Carly Steer made OUA history Friday night as the Lancers cruised past the Algoma Thunderbirds. The fifth year guard from Windsor made her 227th career three pointer, the most in OUA history. Steer's performance was integral in the Lancers dominating 82-60 victory over the Thunderbirds.

GAME STATS
Steer appropriately led all scorers with 27 on the night. The Thunderbirds were led by Karina Cole who dropped 18.

Kaylee Anagnostopoulos led the game in rebounds, bringing in nine boards. Dionne Martin led Algoma with seven.

Steer put in work at both ends of the floor, logging five steals. Karly Fracalanza also did some great defensive work with three steals.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers blew out of the gates in the first quarter with a 9-0 run that was fuelled by some costly Algoma turnovers. Once the game settled and the Thunderbirds forced the Lancers into running a half-court offense, Algoma slowly worked their way back with the help of some Lancers turnovers. Fortunately for the blue and gold, their shooters were feeling it, and they went into the half up by a comfortable 17 point lead, 47-30.

The Thunderbird's best quarter came directly after halftime as they began to cut down the Lancer lead, with Cole and Martin leading the way. The Lancers kept shooting though and Steer made history hitting her 227th career three pointer in the third quarter. Despite the Thunderbirds outscoring the blue and gold in the frame, the Lancers kept plugging away and with two minutes to go, cleared their bench as they secured the win, 82-60.

UP NEXT
