Lancers upset by Gryphons in OUA playoffs

The Windsor Lancers suffered a heartbreaking 62-59 playoff loss to the sixth seed Guelph Gryphons at the St. Denis Centre Wednesday night.

GAME STATS
Guelph's Burke Bechard led the all scorers with 20 points on the night and also notched a double-double with 10 rebounds. The Lancers were led by Olivia Osamusali who dropped 13 and nine rebounds.

GAME FLOW
The Lancer offense came out slow in the first half. The blue and gold had a very recognisable strategy of trying to attack the Gryphons in the paint. Unfortunately for the Lancers, the interior defense of the Gryphons was up to the task, putting up a wall in the paint and stunting the Lancers attack.

The Gryphons were potent on offense too, with Bechard proving nearly un-guardable in the first half scoring nearly half of Guelph's points. Windsor also struggled with their three point game, a traditional point of emphasis in their attack. Gryphon Sarah Holmes hit a buzzer beater to put the Gryphons up 34-29 heading into the half.

The third quarter was not much better to the blue and gold. With many of the same issues plaguing the home team, Guelph was able to run their lead into double digits, putting a lot of pressure on the Lancers. Windsor had to settle for some bad shots due to great defensive work by the Gryphons.

Late into the fourth quarter the Lancers made a run, cutting what was once a 14 point lead to as little as four. Fuelled by Osamusali's work in the post, Windsor came back to make a game of it, keeping the home fans on the edge of their seats. Unfortunately, the Lancers would come close but not close enough, bowing out of the playoffs with a heartbreaking 62-59 loss to the Gryphons on their home floor.

The Lancers would like to thanks fans, friends and supporters of the program for supporting the Lancers all season long.
