The Lancer men's hockey team lost 5-4 in a shootout to the Waterloo Warriors Friday night on the road.
Â
Windsor locked up a playoff spot Thursday night and were just looking to keep their position in the standings, while the Warriors are fighting for the last spot in the ridiculously tight OUA west division.
Â
GAME STATS
The Lancers capitalized on 2/6 powerplays as the Warriors were assessed 41 penalty minutes. Waterloo scored on one of their four powerplays as the Lancers were called for 14 penalty minutes.
Â
Goaltender
Jonathan Reinhart made 28 saves on 33 shots in the losing effort. Warriors' tender Julian Sime made 19 stops on 23 shots.
Â
Trent Fox logged the game's only multi assist performance, assisting on Friesen's and Parker's second goal.
Â
GAME FLOW
The Warriors got out to a quick start with Michael Morgan and Mike Moffat each scoring a minute apart early in the first period to put the Warriors up 2-0 before anyone could even really blink. To the Lancers credit, they were able to regroup and get out of the period without allowing any more goals.
Â
Four minutes into the second period
Alex Friesen got the Lancers on the board and cut the lead in half. Unfortunately, ten minutes into the second period Nick Chyzowski beat
Jonathan Reinhart to restore Waterloo's two goal lead. Zac Coulter scored again for the Gryphons, putting them up 4-2 with four and a half minutes to go in the second.
Ian Parker made good use of them, blasting home not one, but two powerplay goals in less than 20 seconds to pull the Lancers within one at the final intermission, 4-3.
Â
With less than three minutes to go it was
Ryan Shaw who tied the game for Windsor, their fourth goal on just 23 shots. In the overtime period the Lancers went cold, not even registering a shot on net, Reinhart saw to it that the game went to a shootout. Despite the comeback the Lancers fell short, 5-4 in the shootout.
