Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Golden Hawks double up on Lancers

Despite a strong effort in the third period, the Lancer women's hockey team fell to the Laurier Golden Hawks 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Waterloo.

The blue and gold kept things close in the first period, matching the Golden Hawks intensity and shots with eight each. Goaltender Molly Jenkins did her job and kept the Golden Hawks off the board for the whole period, going into the break tied at zero.

Jenkins continued her strong play in the second period but unfortunately the Lancers couldn't score to pull ahead. The Golden Hawks finally broke through on a powerplay when Danielle Wark beat Jenkins with less than four minutes in the period, taking the Hawks to the break up 1-0.

Laurier's Aynsley Harrison bested Jenkins to double the Golden Hawks lead to two in the third. Windsor got on the board a little after the halfway mark when Taylor Conte cut the deficit in half on a great glove side penalty shot. Unfortunately, that was the last of their goals as they fell 2-1.

Jenkins made 24 stops on 26 shots for the Lancers. Laurier's Cohen Myers made 14 saves on 15 shots.
