Lancers edged by Gaels

The Lancer defense gave it all they had on Saturday afternoon but the Lancer football team came up short against Queen's, falling 15-8 on Saturday afternoon in Kingston.

The blue and gold struggled on offense, managing just one scoring drive on the day which ultimately cost them the contest. Despite an inspiring defensive performance, the Lancers fall to 1-3 on the season as their attention now turns to McMaster next week.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels moved right down the field on the opening drive, moving into scoring territory with ease. Fortunately the Lancers bent but didn't break, forcing a field goal. Trailing 3-0 the Windsor offense struggled to block the Queen's rush, leading to two first quarter sacks. The Lancer defense however, was locked in keeping the Gaels out of the end zone, including a goal line stand by the blue and gold.

The defensive struggle continued into the second quarter and the Lancers were caught playing a field position game with punter in Callin Bethune. Despite the Windsor defense playing lockdown ball, the Gaels got on the board again with a late field goal to make it 6-0 right before the half.

The Gael's halftime adjustments paid dividends on the first drive of the second half as they went right down field and aided with a roughing the punter penalty, the Gaels scored the first touchdown of the day as James Keenan found Marko Xidos in the end zone from four yards out. Shortly after, the Lancers conceded a safety to trail 15-0.  Finally, after a turnover the Lancers got on the board when Griffin Fenton missed the field goal but picked up a rouge in the process to make 15-1.  As the third quarter wore on it came closer and closer to gut check time for the Lancers and the offense responded in a big way, on 3rd and 11, Girard rolled out and found Kaeden Walls right at the pylon to put the Lancers in the end zone from 29 yards out to make it a one possession game at the end of the third quarter.

The Lancers' defense continued its strong play, getting the offense the ball back shortly after the three minute warning. Unfortunately Girard overthrew Walls in the end zone leading to an interception effectively ending any comeback hopes.
