Women's Basketball drops road game to Marauders

The No. 6 Windsor Lancers dropped a marque matchup with the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday night in Hamilton, 70-52.

The Lancers came out on fire in the first quarter but couldn't defend the Marauders once they heated up. The loss is only the Lancers second of the season, sitting at 11-2 and second in the OUA West.

GAME STATS
McMaster's Sarah Gates was un-guard-able, dropping 30 points on 37 per cent shooting. The Lancers were led by Kayah Clarke who had 14 points on 29 per cent shooting.

Despite the loss the Lancers owned the glass, outrebounding the Marauders 57-40.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers started the road game in textbook style, grabbing an early lead and playing solid defense against the Marauders. Despite only making one three in the quarter, Windsor doubled up on the Marauders in the first quarter, leading 19-8 after 10 minutes. After being stymied in the first quarter though, McMaster's offense erupted, scoring 27 points and draining five treys, including one with just seconds left in the half. The Lancers, in the meantime went ice cold down the stretch, after leading by as many as 11, they trailed 35-28 at half.

The second half didn't go much better for the blue and gold as the Marauders kept hitting from distance. At times the Lancers seemed like they were about to go on runs, but McMaster kept them from building any real momentum, keeping steadily ahead of Windsor. Ultimately the Lancers lacked the fire power to beat a red-hot shooting McMaster team, falling 70-52.
