Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Lancers hang on to defeat Badgers

Coming into Saturday's contest against the Brock Badgers, the Lancer men's hockey team came in off their biggest win of the season the night before and continued their winning ways with a 2-1 win over the visiting Badgers.

GAME STATS
Ryan Barbosa and Anthony Salinitri both scored for the Lancers. Salinitri also recorded an assist on the evening leading his team with 2 points on the night.  However, the story of the game came from the blue trapezoid as Lancer netminder Jonathan Reinhart made 30 saves in the victory.

GAME FLOW
In the first period, both teams exchanged scoring opportunities however, the goaltenders in both creases stood tall not allowing anything to get past the goal line on either side of the ice. Reinhart turned away 14 shots while Brock goaltender Mario Culina stopped 9 Lancer shots.

The second period was very similar to the first 20 minutes of play as the goaltenders once again could not be solved. Reinhart and Culina continued to flash leather in the goaltending showdown as the shots on goal were 9 to 8 in favour of Brock while the Badgers outshot the Lancers 23-17 in the game after 40 minutes of play.

In the third period, the Badgers opened the scoring as Tyler Rollo put one past Reinhart to give Brock a 1-0 lead 46 seconds into the period. The Lancers would wait to respond and at the 7:46 mark Barbosa netted his seventh of the season from the blueline. As the game wound down, it appeared this contest would need extra time after regulation until Salinitri decided to turn up the heat at the 16:55 mark and potted his eighth of the season to give the blue and gold a 2-1 lead late in the third period and avoid the likeliness of an extra period and put the Badgers on the heels. Despite putting out an extra attacker the Badgers could not get another goal past Reinhart and the Lancers would hold onto this one and earn themselves a perfect 2-0 weekend at home.
