ABOUT THE PODCAST
Behind The Shield is co-hosted by Cailey Theos and Andrew Papadopoulos and will air on a bi-weekly basis throughout the school year to help keep Lancer fans engaged during the current hiatus of regularly scheduled varsity sports seasons being postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
Theos and Papadopoulos will be taking Lancer fans 'Behind The Shield' by speaking with many members of the Lancer Family whether they are current athletes, alumni, coaches, training staff, administrative staff, broadcasters, and anyone directly associated with the blue and gold who has dawned the Lancers shield at one point in time. The pair will hope to lead engaging key and insightful discussions by offering a wide range of topics and a diversity of guests to showcase to offer unique perspectives on current events surrounding the Lancers and impacting our University of Windsor Lancer community.Â
Â
EPISODE ONE – THE YEAR OF OSI
In the first episode of the series, Theos and Papadopoulos welcome former Lancer all-star and world-class track and field athletes Osi Nriagu and Melissa Bishop-Nriagu to reminisce and reflect on their respective successful OUA and CIS (U SPORTS) careers with the Lancers.Â
Â
Nriagu and Bishop-Nriagu indulge in topics relating to their own personal endeavours including life as parents to their young two-year-old daughter, Corinne, Bishop-Nriagu's training for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games (which have been postponed to 2021), and also highlighting Nriagu's recent achievement of being inducted into the upcoming University of Windsor Alumni Sports Hall of Fame.Â
Â
Nriagu (track & field) joins a highly touted induction class this year along with fellow Lancer alumni and SHOF 2020 inductees Matt Butler (swimming), Scott Hillman (hockey), and Noelle Montcalm (track & field).Â
Â
The Lancer track and field alumni power-couple discuss these topics among other things ranging from how they have come to make the Windsor-Essex county region their family's new home, to how they have managed to stay engaged during the pandemic by adjusting their routines to the new normal. In addition to keeping themselves positive mentally and physically active throughout these uncertain times.Â
