Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Jenkins solid in net; Lancers fall to Mustangs

The Windsor Lancers women's hockey team played tough but lost 3-1 to the Western Mustangs in London Saturday afternoon. The blue and gold scored first but despite that and an amazing performance between the pipes by Molly Jenkins, they came up short, falling to 3-17 on the season.

GAME STATS
Molly Jenkins stood on her head, stopping 46 of 49 shots sent her way. Western's Tareya Webster made 20 saves on 21 shots.

Samantha Spagnol scored her second goal of the season. The Lancers outshot the Mustangs 10-9 over the final period.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers got out to a fantastic start, scoring the first goal in the opening minutes of the game when Spagnol ripped a laser from the point, beating Webster and putting her Lancers up 1-0. The celebration was short lived though when just over a minute later Sophie Young put one past Jenkins to tie it. Western kept on the attack and later in the period April Clark gave the Mustangs the lead with 12:00 to go in the frame. Later, just past the halfway mark of the period, Emma Thomas made the most of a powerplay and put the Mustangs up 3-1. Heading to the break the Lancers faced a 3-1 deficit.

The second period was the Molly Jenkins show. The Lancer offence managed just five shots on net, meanwhile the Mustangs fired 22 pucks at Jenkins' net. The fourth year netminder was rock solid though, rejecting every shot the Mustangs took. Despite the shooting disparity the Lancers were in no worse shape heading into the third, still down 3-1.

The third period saw the Lancers put the most pressure on the Western net of the whole game, unfortunately Webster was up to the task, stopping each of the Lancers' shots. The blue and gold pulled their goalie late in the game but still couldn't find the back of the net, dropping the game 3-1.
