Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Osamusali helps lead Lancers over Warriors

The Windsor Lancer women's basketball team took care of business on the road Friday night, besting the Warriors 69-45 in Waterloo.

The Lancers played some physical ball, owning the glass and forcing turnovers. Needing a win to stay in the race for first place in the OUA West, setting up a monster road game at No. 5 Western Saturday night.

GAME STATS
Olivia Osamusali led all scorers on the night, dropping 14 points on 50 per cent shooting. Vannessa Hughes and Breanna Hudspeth led Waterloo with nine points each on 25 per cent and 67 per cent shooting, respectively.

The Lancers dominated the glass, almost doubling the Warriors 60-31. Every single Lancer recorded at least two rebounds on the night.

Windsor played a very opportunistic defence, scoring 20 points on 18 turnovers. The Warriors scored four points on 12 turnovers.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers hit their first shot of the game, a Harriet Carey triple, though it wasn't a sign of successful shooting to come. However, despite some tough luck at the rim the Lancers earned their lead. The blue and gold rebounded well and played opportunistic defence, forcing nine turnovers in the first half and scoring 10 points off them. On the defensive end Windsor locked the Warriors down, holding them to just 25 per cent shooting in the first frame. The rebounding and turnover advantage was reflected on the scoreboard at halftime, with the Lancers out in front by eleven, 33-22.

Windsor pushed their advantage on the glass and shot a little better to open the third quarter, extending their lead as far as 20 with 6:31 to go in the third. The Lancers continued to give the Warriors problems, turning Waterloo over another four times. Heading into the final quarter, the Lancers owned a 57-36 lead. The visitors continued to use the blueprint of tenacious rebounding, building their lead despite more shooting woes. The Lancers owned an almost 2:1 advantage on the glass, helping to push their lead to 26 with just minutes to play. Windsor closed out strong, winning 69-45.
