Game Recap: Football |

Lancer Football falls to No. 2 Mustangs

The Lancer football program lost to the No. 2 Western Mustangs 54-4 on Saturday afternoon in London. Windsor showed some bright spots in the second half but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.

The loss moves the Lancers to 2-2 on the season, while the Mustangs improve to 3-1 on the season.

STATS
Quarterback Sam Girard threw for 52 yards and also rushed for 24 yards. Callin Bethune finished the game with 31 yards receiving.

On defense, Andrew Beatty led the team with 8 total sacks while Clayton Shreve and Daniel Stirling finished the game with 6.5 total.

GAMEFLOW
Down 28-0 to start the second half, the Lancers were able to force a fumble that would hopefully change their fortune in the game. After having to punt the ball, the Windsor defense was again able to force a fumble due to a great play by Beatty. The fumble was scooped up by first year Lancer Istvan Assibo-Dadzie and the Lancer special team's unit scored a rouge to cap off the drive.

The fourth quarter started with a huge opportunity for the blue and gold after great special teams' coverage led to a muffed punt that was recovered by the Lancers deep in Mustang territory. Windsor would come away from this drive with a field goal that split the uprights. Although being down by a large margin, the Lancers continued to play hard, showing the character and culture of this Lancer team.
