Lancers fall to Golden Hawks on the road

The Lancers traveled up the 401 for the last time this season to take on the No. 9 ranked Laurier Golden Hawks. Despite some electrifying special teams plays, the Lancers fell 33-8.

Windsor is now 2-3 on the season heading into their final game of the regular season next week in Windsor.

STATS
Sam Girard threw for 166 yards, and a TD in today's performance against the Golden Hawks. Matthew James had a big day with nine catches for 177 yards, and David Adeniran ran for 68 yards.

Defensively, Danial Sterling recorded his first interception of the season. Cole Verlinde forced a fumble that was recovered by Breton MacDougall, Liam Hoskins led the team in tackles with five, and Devin Veresuk had a hard-hitting sack to kick off the game.

GAME FLOW
The Lancer defense got off to a hot start after a huge Veresuk sack that set the tone for the hard-hitting, defensive affair that played out for four quarters. Lancer Jalem Catlin was a human highlight reel on special teams today, highlighted by a 68-yard return to start the second quarter. Hoskins name was constantly heard throughout the game due to his phenomenal coverage on the kickoff and punt team. The Lancers went into halftime down 16-0.

The Lancer defense yet again came up big when Verlinde forced a huge fumble to start off the half. This defensive stand would continue throughout the third quarter as the Lancers kept the Hawks off the scoreboard. Daniel Sterling would solidify a strong defensive performance with an interception that ended a long Golden Hawks drive.

In the dying minutes of the game, Alex Bornais would make a huge catch that placed the Lancers in great field position. On the very next play, Girard tossed a beautiful ball to Justin Amoah for the first of his Lancer career. Windsor then converted on the two-point attempt.
