On the weekend the Lancer men's golf team traveled to Kitchener to play in the two-day OUA West Regional Qualifier, hosted by the Laurier Golden Hawks. The top four teams out of eight from the qualifier will advance to the OUA Championship on Friday October 15th at Cherry Downs in Pickering. Â Â

Jarrod Smith and
Thomas DeMarco tied for the overall individual title with a two day score of 137.Â
In a rainy start to the first round on Sunday and a forecast that was less than favourable, the Lancers didn't know what to expect and planned for the worst. Leading the way for the blue and gold was DeMarco with a 68. Smith continued his solid play from previous events and posted an even par 71. Rounding out the scoring for the Lancers was Nicholas Tanovich 72,
Austin Friesen was 73 and Chris Hennigar who posted a 78. With a total team score of 284 and even par overall the Lancers found themselves tied with Laurier at the top of the leader board after day one.Â

After an extremely rainy night on Sunday, the weather broke and Monday turned out to be a cool and clear day. The Lancers were back for the second round of the qualifier and looking to finish the task and seek a birth to the OUA Championship. Â
The second round of the tournament belonged to the Lancers. Leading the way with a tournament low score of 66 was Smith. The Windsor native made six birdies and one bogey on his way to his five under par score.Â
Thomas DeMarco was the other Lancer under par posting a 69.Â

Nicholas Tanovich continued his solid play by posting and 73, Chris Hennigar also posted a 73 and
Austin Friesen was 75.Â

With the victory the Lancer will advance to the OUA Golf Championship October 15th at Cherry Downs in Pickering.  Â
