Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Lancers come from behind to defeat Hawks

In a battle for first place, the Lancer men's hockey team came from behind to defeat the Laurier Golden Hawks 5-4 in Waterloo Saturday night.

The win moves Windsor to 3-1 on the year as they remain atop the OUA west division standings, while the Hawks fall to 2-2.

STATS
Connor Matton led the blue and gold with a three point night, while Nolan Gardiner has two goals. Anthony Stefano, Holden Wale, and Sean Olson also scored for Windsor. Noah Giesbrecht made 43 saves in net for the Lancers to earn his third win of the season.

Justyn Gurney was Laurier's highest point getter with a goal and an assist, while goaltender Christian Propp made 24 saves in net.

GAME FLOW
The Lancers jumped out to an early lead just six and a half minutes into the game when Stefano accepted a pass from John Parker-Jones and Mason Kohn. Windsor was forced to play defense for the remainder of the period as the Hawks peppered Gieshbrecht with 23 shots in the period. Their efforts would pay off as they tied it up before the period was out and the game went into the break deadlocked at one.

Laurier scored quickly to kick off the second with a power play goal from Adrian Nabuurs. They hosts held the one goal lead until the near end of the frame when Michael Silveri added his second of the season to go up by two with 2:01 remaining. The Lancers would not quit however and with only 0:33 left in the period Gardiner snapped in his first of the night to make it a one goal game.

The third period was a high scoring affair, with three goals coming within the first seven minutes. Gardiner tied the game up with a power play marker two minutes into the frame, before Laurier retaliated with a special teams goal of their own a couple of minutes later. Wale would tied the game up at 6:48, and the game remained deadlocked until the final minutes of the contest.

After a timeout and on the power play, the Lancers fed the puck to leading scorer Sean Olson who fired it past Propp to earn Windsor the win.
