Intense five-set match ends with loss to Waterloo

The Windsor Lancers headed to Waterloo for a Friday night game and fell 3-2 (25-21, 30-32, 24-26, 25-18, 8-15) in a close head-to-head game against the Warriors at the Physical Activities Complex in Waterloo.

GAME STATS
Luca Nastase led the way for the blue and gold with 15 kills and five blocks on the night while setter Anthony DeGirolamo recorded 29 assists in the game.

The host's Liam MacArthur led their squad with 21 total kills and Noel Campfens had 35 assists throughout the match.

GAME FLOW
The blue and gold got off to a strong start in the first set with good passes to keep things moving. At the first technical timeout, the Lancers were up by two over the warriors with a 16-14 advantage and hoping to keep their lead. The squad took over the host's court for a 25-21 set win in their control.

The second set of the game was a battle between the two teams as they fought back and forth, trading points throughout. Windsor had a good line-up of strong hitters including Gustavo Siqueira who managed to get a couple back-to-back kills. The wild set went into extra points and the Warriors battled hard to take the set 32-20 and tie the game at one.

In the third, the Lancers started to feel the pressure and make errors that the Warriors took advantage of. Windsor got back into it but still dropped the third 24-26 to the hosts.

Windsor was not ready to back down and with strong blocks they took an early 6-5 lead in the fourth set and forced the Warriors into a timeout. Nastase and Dami Alalade made positive impacts for the team with solid kills into the back of the court that the Warrior's defense struggled to successfully hit. The slight shift gave Windsor the momentum to continue the scoring streak and take the set 25-18.

The final set of the match had both teams prepared for an intense set as they found opportunities to extend the scoring gap. Unfortunately, the Lancers could not hold their composure and finished the set with a score of 8-15 and a 3-2 loss over the Warriors.
