Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lancers earn point in OT loss to Guelph

The Windsor Lancer women's hockey team lost in a tight 1-0 game in overtime to the Guelph Gryphons on Friday Night in Guelph.

STATS

For the Blue and Gold, Jessica Gribbon and Jaden Cherry made 4 shots on goal while goaltender Holly Borrett had a solid day in net with 36 saves.

GAME FLOW

In the first period, the Lancers were fired up to play after a two week break from competition. KayCyn Hernandez had a solid scoring opportunity partway through the period but deflected by the Guelph goaltender, Alexandrea Davidson. With fresh legs, the Lancers were really feeling the pressure as the Gryphons managed to gain more possession opportunities to score over the blue and gold. Both teams were scoreless at the first intermission.

The second period illustrated a similar pattern with both teams struggling to find an opening to the back of the net. Windsor had an extra edge going into the second period being able to gain power plays and Holly Borrett putting in the work to keep the traffic clear in the Lancer zone with multiple good saves. After the frame, the teams remained scoreless, eager for a breakthrough.

The last period saw both teams with unanswered calls and unable to find the right offensive play sending the game into overtime. With time winding down in the extra period, Guelph's Brielle Caruso found her way around Windsor traffic to score her first OUA goal and lift the hosts of the Lancers.
