GAME FLOW
Both teams came out in the first quarter playing great defense. The Golden Hawks took an early 9-4 lead but a
Reine Ndome steal would lead to a fast-break basket for the Lancers and would serve as a defensive tone-setter for Windsor. Dehkissia was dominant while shooting and defending for the Lancers throughout the first quarter. Laurier led 14-9 after the first quarter of play.
Â
The Lancers would start coming back against the Golden Hawks after a timeout was called early in the second quarter. Dehkissia would score four points in a row and this run would put the Lancers within three points of Laurier midway through the quarter. The Golden Hawks would go into the half with a 34-24 lead.
Â
The Lancers started the second half strong, going on a 4-point run to start the quarter off. Windsor would continue to play hard defense, forcing a ten-second violation midway through the third quarter.
Sofia Kennedy would hit a three-pointer, and
Hayley Woods would hit two free throws to cut down the Golden Hawks lead but the hosts still led by nine, 47-38 heading into the final quarter. Windsor went on a 6-2 run to open the fourth, and with just over three minutes left to play, the Lancers were within one point of the Golden Hawks. Unfortunately, two shots from beyond the arch would end the Lancers comeback attempt, as Laurier sealed the victory 56-50.
