Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Badgers edge Lancers in overtime

In their second game of a weekend series, the Lancer women's hockey team dropped a close 3-2 game to the Brock Badgers in overtime Saturday at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.

STATS
With her first start in net for the blue and gold, goaltender Holly Borrett made 30 saves in her debut. Jessica Legault and Paige McArthur both scored their first OUA career goals in the loss.

Brock goaltender Alina Hironaka made 26 saves to earn her second straight win, while Cassidy Maplethorpe scored two goals for the visitors.

GAME FLOW

In the highly anticipated rematch, fans got to witness a high-speed affair between the Lancers and Badgers. Much like their first meeting on Friday, both teams attacked with an aggressive mentality. Although both teams came in with an attacking mentality, most of the major opportunities went the Badgers way. Ashley Maitre would get an opportunity in the dying minutes of the period, however, great goaltending by the Badgers stopped this advance. In the late stages of the first period, Maplethorpe scored her first of the game to put the visitors up 1-0 heading into the break.

Maggie Peterson would give the Badgers a scare just minutes into the second period on a quick attack that nearly caught Brock off guard. The Lancers would finally find the back of the net after a fast break led by Peterson and Emily Eikelboom who sent a beautiful pass to Legault for her first of the season.

Midway through the period, Borrett was able to make two incredible saves in a row, helping the Lancers gain momentum. Ashley Maitre and Peterson would continue to attack the net, in search of the goal that would put the Lancers ahead. That goal would not come in the 2nd period, as the game went into the intermission at an even 1-1.

Windsor came out of intermission and spent most of their time on the attack. After attempts by the likes of Maitre, Peterson, and Ringor, the Lancers were finally able to score when Peterson would get her third assist on the year by setting up Paige McArthur. Being down one, the Badgers went on the attack and found a goal with just 2 minutes left in the game. Due to this last-minute goal by the Badgers, the game would find its way into overtime. In extra time, Devynn Dion would block two shots, however  this was not enough as Maplethorpe scored her second of the game to secure the win and weekend sweep for the visitors.
