Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey earns 5th straight win with victory over Badgers

The Lancer women's hockey team picked up their fifth win in a row on Saturday afternoon, following a 4-2 win over the host Brock Badgers in St. Catharine's, ON.

The victory moves the blue and gold to 5-2-1 and in second place in the OUA west division.

GAME FLOW
Windsor came out tired in the first period after a late night 2-1 victory over the Gryphons in Guelph the night before. The Badgers controlled the game for much of the period and out shot the Lancers 14-4 in the first twenty minutes.

The second period was much of the same as Lancer goaltender Kristen Swiatoschik stood on her head to keep the Lancers in the game. The senior goaltender made 30 saves throughout the first two periods of play, and the game remained tied 0-0 heading into the final frame.

The third period was a completely different contest than the first two periods with all six of the games goals scored in the final eight minutes of play.

Brock's Marin Green opened the scoring with a short-handed goal at 11:41 to put the hosts up 1-0. Their lead would not last long, however, as Maggie Peterson scored her first of two on the day to tie the game at 13:29. Maggi DeWolf-Russ would put the Lancers on top with 3:42 remaining, and Peterson would add her second of the game just 32 seconds later to give Windsor a two goal lead.

In an effort to add to the scoreboard, the Badgers pulled their goaltender with less than two minutes remaining in regulation, allowing Devan Andrusak to add an empty net marker to put Windsor up by three.

In the dying seconds of the game, the Badgers would score their second of the night but the Lancers held a comfortable lead and took the win 4-2.
