The Lancer men's hockey team defeated the Guelph Gryphons 3-2 in an overtime thriller in their first game of a weekend series.

Windsor goal scorers included
Brady Pataki,
Mel Melconian, and
Anthony Stefano with the game winner. Stefano would also have two assists, with
Sean Olson and
Mason Kohn also contributing. Goalkeeper
Nathan Torchia would save 32 of the 34 shots that came his way.
GAME FLOW
Guelph came into the game applying tremendous pressure to the Lancer defense, yet some great goaltending from Torchia kept the game deadlocked at zero. Midway through the first period, the Lancers would strike on the power play with Melconian's fifth of the season. A minute and a half later the Gryphons would knock in one of their own to send the game into the first intermission tied at one.
Just seconds into the second period,
Brady Pataki would put Windsor up 2-1. This was Pataki's sixth goal of the season which was assisted by
Mason Kohn and
Anthony Stefano. The Lancers would hold Guelph off for the remainder of the period, keeping their lead heading into the game's final act.
The Lancers would lead most of the third period until Guelph's Ted McGreen found an equalizer at 14:45 of the period and sending the game into overtime.
Midway through the seven-minute overtime period,
Anthony Stefano found the back of the net to secure the Lancer victory 3-2.
