Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Overtime marker lifts Lancers over Mustangs

In their second of three games over three days, the Lancer women's hockey team completed a come from behind victory to defeat the host Western Mustangs 2-1 in overtime Friday afternoon in London.

STATS
Jaydlin Spooner made 21 saves in net to earn the win for the Lancers, while Western's Kaitlyn Booth made 31 saves for the hosts.

GAME FLOW
The first period was hard fought for both teams with the game deadlocked 0-0 heading into the second period.

Western's Sam Wood was able to capitalize on her own rebound at 12:56 of the period to give the Mustangs a one goal lead. Spooner was a brick wall in the Lancer net after that as the Mustangs continued to pressure throughout the remainder of the frame.

In the third, both squads were unable to capitalize on their opportunities thanks to solid goaltending at both ends of the ice. Just when it looked like the Lancers weren't going to get past Booth, Maggie Peterson tied the game up with just 29 seconds remaining in regulation.

After a short break, it took less than two minutes into the overtime frame for fifth year senior Amy Maitre to score her second goal of the season to give the blue and gold the win.

UP NEXT
Windsor and Western will face each other in the first round of the playoffs. The third game in this triple-header series will determine home ice advantage. The game will take place at 4:00pm on Saturday, March 5th at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.

Prior to the game the Lancers will honour their graduating seniors Samantha Spagnol, Jaydlin Spooner, Amy Maitre & Ashley Maitre.
