Both the Lancer and Guelph women's volleyball teams were in a must win situation on Sunday afternoon as they headed into their OUA regular season finale in Guelph, as the winner of the match would advance to the post season.
Â
In the end, the blue and gold earned their third straight victory and clinched the playoff spot with a 3-1 (27-29, 25-21, 25-18, 25-22) win over the host Gryphons and extend their season another day.
Â
STATS
Yalia Sealy had nine kills and 18 digs against the Gryphons, while
Aryn Markett would follow up her last big performance with another, with 15 kills and 10 digs.
Emma Shepherd also hit double digits with 12 kills while
Brooke Davis had 14 digs to lead the team defensively.
Â
GAME FLOW
Windsor dominated the court to start the game, but the Lancers saw the Gryphons crawl their way back and tie the contest at 19-19. The set would become a back and forth affair at this point, with a 29-27 finish in favour of the Gryphons.
Â
Much like the first set, the Lancers would dominate early thanks to Markett, Sealy, and
Jenny Campbell. Guelph would once again find a way to close the gap, but the Lancers were determined to maintain their lead. A spike by Sealy, and a block by
Jordyn Brearley would prove to be momentum shifters. Windsor would go on to take the set 25-21, bringing the game even at one set each.
          Â
The third set featured the Lancers and Gryphons going blow-for-blow, with the game getting all tied up at 10. A Brearley spike and a block would give the Lancers the drive they needed to pull ahead and take the set 25-18.
Â
The Lancers were one set away from clinching a playoff spot, and they played with that in mind. Windsor played with their foot on the gas throughout the fourth, even with the Gryphons pushing to get back into the game. Windsor would win 25-22 to clinch a playoff berth for the blue and gold.
