The Lancer men's soccer team earned their first win of the 2022 season Sunday afternoon with a dominating 9-0 win over the host Algoma Thunderbirds.
Â
The blue and gold made the most of their scoring opportunities anytime the ball was in their possession. Within the first two minutes of the game, Otis Vacratis started their scoring streak after Algoma goalie Aiden Adonu was unable to clear the ball.
Frankie Facchineri scored two back-to-back goals to dominate on the offensive side to make a good impact for the Lancers, and
Alessandro Berardi added his first of the season. With the boost of confidence, Windsor went into halftime 4-0.
Â
The second half of play continued in a similar fashion as the blue and gold went on to keep the pace high and extend their scoring streak while the Thunderbirds worked hard to keep up. With a switch in goaltenders, Isaac Lukas did a good job at keeping any Algoma players out of the box and
Robert Alionte,
Devin Hernandez, and
Giovanni Magliaro made a collective effort to extend their lead with goals of their own. In the last minute of the game, the squad received a late free kick yet Adonu was able to get his hands on the ball and the final whistle was called. With challenges to earn a win thus far in the season, the Lancers remained hungry and came out on top with a final score of 9-0 over the Algoma Thunderbirds.
