Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lancers dominate Golden Hawks in Waterloo

The Windsor Lancers women's basketball team tipped off against the Laurier Golden Hawks in Waterloo on Wednesday evening.  The blue and gold managed to stave off the purple and gold to earn their third straight win with a recent convincing 77-55 road victory over Laurier.

Harriet Carey led the way for the Lancers offensively in points with 19 while Maggie Denys added 14 points and Mariame Dehkissia also contributed to the offensive flow with 13 points of her own.

Laurier's Brittyn Graves had 15 points in the loss to the Lancers on a rare hump day game.

GAME FLOW
In the first quarter, the blue and gold had a hot start coming out of the gate ensuring that they set the tone early on against the host Golden Hawks.  Windsor held the lead for most of the quarter and saw 8 defensive rebounds come their way off Laurier scoring chances.  The Windsor gals were able to hold a 22-11 lead to close out the first.

The second quarter saw similar results reflected on the stats sheet with the Lancers yet again maintaining the flow of the game and ensuring that the Golden Hawks would not pick up any offensive momentum.  The Lancers held onto their lead throughout the entirety of the second frame and managed to build up to a 40-26 lead heading into the dressing rooms for half-time thanks to solid offensive contributions from Dehkissia who had 9 points at the half while Denys and Carey who also added 7 points of their own each.

In the third quarter, the Lancers racked up 21 new points to add to their impressive lead and shut down the Golden Hawks offence with diligent defence not allowing them to get back into the match-up.  The Lancers went 8-14 from the field goal attempts matching their best effort put forth in the first quarter to help propel them to a 61-43 lead at the end of the third.

For the final quarter it was all Windsor with Carey 'careying' the team to the eventual victory with a trio of triple pointers down the stretch to add the final blows needed to ground the Golden Hawks and take the eventual 77-55 win to improve to a 6-5 record on the season now to date.
