Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Bold edge Lancers in rare Thursday night contest

The Windsor Lancers women's hockey team was in action on a rare Thursday night game at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex hosting the TMU Bold.

Back in November, the Lancers were able to come away from with a close 2-1 road win over the Bold in Toronto but this time around the script was flipped as the Bold took the Thursday night matinee, defeating the blue and gold a 3-2 tough loss at home.

Paige McArthur netted her first goal of the season for the Lancers in the first period to trim the initial deficit in half while Keana McKibbin managed to score her 10th goal of the season late in the second period. Kristen Swiatoschik turned aside 27 shots out of 30 that came the way of the Lancers netminder.

TMU's goals were scored by Alexia Ursua, Madison Lalonde, and Payton Kerr respectively.

Meanwhile, the Bold's netminder Alexia Stratos stopped 25 out of the 27 shots that came at her to help propel her team to the win and capture an important road victory in Windsor.

GAME FLOW
In the first period, the Bold found the back of the net first at the 12:06 mark when Ursua tipped in a deflection in front of the Lancers net that Swiatoschik could not stop within the split-second ricochet that beat the Lancer goaltender and put the Bold up 1-0.

The TMU lead would continue to grow in the first as at the 18:30 mark Lalonde doubled the Bold lead with a shorthanded marker to put her squad up in front by a score of 2-0 within the first twenty minutes of play.

Windsor would muster up the response needed to fight back at 19:04 when McArthur received a pass from Devynn Dion and moved up the ice before sniping home her first goal of the season past Stratos to break the goose egg both on the board and goal category this season and more importantly cut the Bold's lead in half before heading into the first intermission.

In the second period, the Lancers found trouble at the 3:29 mark when Kerr got her first goal of the season to restore a two-goal lead once again for TMU.  The interlude of the second period saw great goaltending from both sides as each team traded chances while both goalies stood tall.  That is up until the 16:18 mark when McKibbin threw a wild angle shot on net that went top corner over the shoulder of Stratos.  McKibbin's goal came with the assist of Maggie Peterson who picked up her 14th assist of the campaign on McKibbin's 10th goal of the season.

Neither team would find the back of the net throughout the duration of the final approximately 24 minutes of regulation play as both goaltenders again stole the show and despite Windsor's last-minute efforts to try and send the game to overtime by applying additional pressure on TMU's goal with a timeout called and empty net/extra attacker, ultimately the Bold would stay strong and go on to win the tough battle 3-2 in front of the Thursday night CPRC crowd.

TMU snapped a 5-game losing streak with the win over Windsor to improve to 7-8-4-0 while the Lancers now fall to 13-5-1-0 on the year and had a 4-game winning streak snapped by the Bold.
