GAME FLOW
The Lancers had a strong start as Leitch was found uncovered in front of the net and fire the puck past York goaltender Emma Wedgewood to put the Lancers up 1-0 two and a half minutes into the game. Petitclerc displayed her hand-eye coordination as the Lions made multiple attempts to corral the puck towards the net. Halfway through the period,
Keana McKibbin turned on the jets for a breakaway, yet Wedgewood made a great save and Windsor was forced to search for another opportunity. Windsor headed into the first intermission up 1-0.Â
Â
In the second period saw the game get tighter as tensions flared between each team. The Lions would gain their first powerplay opportunity as Rorie Ringer and Maggie Matani were sent to the box for hooking and delay of game. With the 5-on-3 advantage, York forward Sydney Paulson accepted a pass from Taylor Crawford and Julia Cuccia to tie the game 1-1 just as their powerplay ran out. The game remained tied heading into the break.Â
Â
The third period opened with some early saves by Petitclerc as York came rushing into the Windsor zone. Lola Massey capitalized on one of those opportunities and scored her 4th goal of the year to give the Lions took their first lead of the game. The blue and gold tried endlessly to get the equalizer and pulled Petitclerc in favour of the extra man. The Lancers were unable to score, but the Lions added an empty net goal to secure the victory.
