Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lancers split weekend road trip

The Lancer women's hockey team split their weekend on the road with a 5-1 loss to the Queen's Gaels on Friday night, before rebounding on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Saturday.

FRIDAY
The host Gaels controlled play for much of the game. Jaden Cherry scored the Lancers lone goal in the loss.

Queen's led 2-0 before Cherry got the Lancers on the board midway through the first period. The Gaels led 2-1 heading into the first intermission.

The Gaels scored again in the second, and added two more in the third to earn the win over the visiting Lancers.

SATURDAY
Darcee Hall scored the game winning goal and Kristen Swiatoschik earned the shut out in net following a solid performance in net that saw her made 32 saves.

The first period saw the Lancers hit the ice with high energy as they looked to bounce back after Friday night's loss. A close opportunity arose for the Lancers when Devynn Dion caused some trouble in the Ontario Tech zone and the puck went flying, however nothing came of it. Swiatochik made it look easy in the net as she went on to make six saves within the first six minutes. Neither team dominated early in the period and Windsor and Ontario Tech went into the first intermission scoreless.

After an Ontario Tech penalty was called in the second, Windsor gained a five-minute man advantage yet the Lancers were not able to capitalize on the opportunity. As both teams continued a similar back-and-forth battle, the Lancers were determined to get on the scoreboard first. Into the zone, Maggie Mitani made two attempts on Ontario Tech goaltender Zoe McGee but she was able to kick the puck away. The Lancers and the Ridgebacks remained scoreless after forty minutes.

In the third period, the blue and gold continued to make the most of the remaining time left, sprinting for the puck and picking up the pace to take control. Finally, after a long stretch of play and no successful scoring, Darcee Hall was able to get past McGee and gave Windsor a 1-0 lead. The Ridgebacks went back to work and increased their physicality however the squad could not execute a response in time and Windsor earned a 1-0 victory.
