The Windsor Lancer women's basketball team split their weekend road trip to the GTA, falling to the TMU Bold 70-63 on Friday night, before rebounding to defeat the Toronto Varsity Blues 72-50 on Saturday night at the Goldring Centre.

FRIDAY
Vanessa Budimunda led the Lancers in the loss with 17 points, while
Julia Chiarot had the team's only double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Maggie Denys came off the bench to contribute 10 points, as well.

SATURDAY
Harriet Carey led the way for the Lancers scoring 12 points and grabbing 4 rebounds in the victory and going 3-9 from three-point range in 19 minutes played.Â

Mariame Dehkissia had 11 points and 4 rebounds while also going 3-5 at the charity stripe.Â

While Vaneessa Budimunda and
Kali Grootenboer each had 10 points, but Budimunda's 7 rebounds and Grootenboer's 5 rebounds also came up strong and allowed the Lancers to coast to victory.

The Blues were led by Lauren Boers who scored 11 points for Toronto in the loss to the Lancers.

In the first quarter the Lancers were able to outscore the Varsity Blues 21-17 with
Kaelyn Batten and
Maggie Denys each netting 5 points towards the blue and gold's opening frame score. Budimunda also nabbed 3 rebounds to help the Lancers close out the quarter with a four-point lead.Â

The Lancers were able to score another 24 points in the second quarter again outscoring the Blues by double and saw offensive production heat up from Carey and Grootenboar who had 6 and 5 points respectively. The Lancers were up 45-29 at halftime.Â

The start of the second half was again in favour of the blue and gold who continued to tally points on the board with Dehkissia draining 5 points in the third quarter to lead the team to a comfortable 20-point lead of 58-38 by the end of the third.Â

The fourth quarter saw the Lancers continue to swish shots and get buckets as their steady consistent play allowed them to leave the Goldring Centre with a 72-50 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues and their home crowd.

The Lancers will be back in action next week at home when they welcome the McMaster Marauders to the Toldo Lancer Centre on Saturday February 4th for Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm and fans can purchase tickets at the gate of the TLC box office or online at goLancers.ca/tickets.
