Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Windsor rebounds to defeat Warriors

The Windsor Lancers men's hockey team managed to quickly put behind them their 4-3 defeat on Friday night to the Waterloo Warriors in Waterloo to bounce back on Saturday night to take the rematch game edging out the Warriors with a 2-1 victory at the Columbia Ice Field Arena.

Anthony Stefano and Hunter Holmes scored for the blue and gold while Nathan Torchia made 29 saves in the victory.

Waterloo's goal came off the stick of Dan Walker which kept things tied for a while before Holmes eventual game winning goal for the Lancers.

With the win, the Lancers now improve to 12-3-2 on the campaign and are currently sitting second in the OUA West standings one point back from the TMU Bold who are in first.

GAME FLOW
In the first period, both sides skated up the ice well in the early portion of the game trading shots and seeing Torchia and Waterloo netminder Dan Murphy flash the leather early on.  The atmosphere in the rink however changed when Stefano opened the scoring at the 9:51 mark of the first frame netting his 7th goal of the season to put the Lancers up 1-0 in front of the Waterloo crowd.  Brady Hinz and Holden Wale were credited with the assists on the Lancers opening goal from Stefano.

Waterloo would however quickly respond with Walker's goal coming at 11:59 as the black and gold were not wanting to go into the dressing room down 1-0 to the blue and gold instead, they notched the score up to 1-1 heading into the first intermission.

The second period was scoreless with each side equally holding puck possession and trading shots which only found the pads of Torchia and Murphy respectively and kept the 1-1 on the board still intact.

Meanwhile the third period came with more excitement for fans, as Lancer fans jumped out of their seats at the 14:52 mark of the period when Holmes scored his 5th goal of the season from Grant Spence and Will Ennis to put the Lancers up 2-1.  No other goals came before regulation ended so Holmes was the game's hero on Saturday night securing the victory for Windsor at the CIF Arena.
