The Windsor Lancers football team dominated their final game on the 2023 OUA regular season schedule versus the visiting York Lions on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field in front of a large pro-Lancer crowd on hand to witness the one-sided season finale in Windsor.

The Lancers shut out the Lions on their Senior's Day and UWindsor staff appreciation final home game with a statement win of 69-0 to wrap up the regular season and head into the post-season on a high note with their convincing win.

Brady Lidster and
Danny Skelton were once again each instrumental to the Lancers offense and equally effective on the scoresheet in helping to capitalize on scoring chances for the blue and gold throughout the game.Â

Lidster's successful kicks and Skelton's superb passing plays allowed the Lancers to showcase supremacy on the gridiron and not give the Lions any hope down the stretch.Â

Nick Dimovski all made trips down to the end zone for scoring plays including McJannet and Talbot making two respective scoring plays each in this outing.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lancers were able to open up the scoring at 6:51 of the first quarter when Johnson received a 5-yard pass from Skelton and good kick from Lidster was converted creating an early 7-0 lead.Â

The Lancers were then able to build on their early lead without forfeiting any points in between to double up their lead to 14-0 with 1:40 left to play in the opening quarter when McJannet converted on a 16-yard pass from Skelton and another Lidster kick put the blue and gold up by double.Â

In the second quarter, the Lancers continued to be tough to tame for the Lions as they were able to further expand on their lead at 13:59 when Una scored on a 4-yard pass from Skelton and Lidster put the kick away to extend the Lancer lead to 21-0.

A team safety at the 6:58 mark of the second quarter allowed for two additional points for the Lancers to add to the scoreboard then sitting at 23-0.

After the 20-yard team safety happened, a few minutes later with 3:40 left to go in the second a 19-yard team safety went in favour of the Lancers to add another two points to their large lead which became 25-0 at that point.

The blue and gold when then see another touchdown to end the quarter when McJannet was able to score in the end zone once more this time off a 10-yard pass from Skelton and a good Lidster kick followed up to notch the lead up to 32-0 to end the first half with a huge margin.

The Lancer offense exploded in the third quarter bursting onto the scene with a trio of touchdowns amongst the scoring spree wreckage.

An 8-yard team safety at 10:36 put the score up to 34-0, when later John scored a 2-yard run at 6:24 to make the score 41-0 after Lidster's kick went through the uprights once again.

Following that, Talbot scored on a 46-yard run which came in tandem with Lidster kicking another good ball which then saw the score grow to 48-0 at 3:41 of the third before Mombo scored a 75-yard run touch down with only 4 seconds remaining in the third quarter which then grew the lead to 55-0 after Lidster's kick scored and kept the game all Lancers on the scoresheet.

In the fourth quarter, Dimovski scored on a 16-yard run and Lidster cashed in on another kick to put the Lancers up 62-0 at 7:24.

The final scoring play in this contest came when Talbot scored on a 69-yard punt return and Lidster's final kick was good which allowed the Lancers to round out the scoring at 69-0 at 5:50 to put a lid on this game in front of the 3500+ spectators in attendance at Alumni Field.Â

The Lancers have now completed their 2023 OUA regular season with a 6-2 record which seeds them in third place within the OUA standings and will now host the sixth seeded Carleton Ravens next Saturday October 28th at 4:00pm. This will be the first Lancer home playoff game since 2014.
