HOW IT HAPPENED ON FRIDAY
The Lancers opened the game strong with Gribbon sliding a cross-crease pass to Eikelboom, who potted one for the blue in gold in the first minute of play. The Golden Hawks were quick to respond, tying the score just over one minute later. Nonetheless, the blue and gold bounced back with a marker from the point by Latham to put the Lancers in the lead.Â
Â
The second frame was again, full of goal-scoring action. Laurier first jumped on a loose puck to tie the score. Then, at 9:40 the Golden Hawks earned a power play marker to take the lead for the first time in the game. Less than two minutes later the blue and gold responded as DeWolf-Russ secured a forehand-backhand riser to make it 3-3. To cap off the period Laurier found the back of the Lancer net again on the power play, taking a one-goal lead going into the third period. Â
Â
Despite changes exchanged back and forth, the blue and gold ultimately came up short as Laurier sealed the deal with an empty netter in the last minute of play. Â
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED ON SATURDAY
Both goalies turned aside all shots faced in the opening period keeping the contest scoreless throughout the first 20 minutes of play.
Â
In the second period, Laurier opened the scoring when Kylie Laliberte found a way to beat Barrett and sneak the puck in past the Lancer goaltender at 13:41 to put the Golden Hawks up 1-0.
Â
Another second period marker came at 19:22 when Elle Spencer of the Golden Hawks scored to double up the Laurier lead 2-0 to round out the second frame.
Â
The Lancers battled hard throughout the third period but ultimately could not solve Renaud. The Golden Hawks would go on to shutout the Lancers with solid shut down defence and strong goaltending to earn a hard fought 2-0 victory in Windsor over the Lancers serving them their second loss of the weekend.
