Lancers drop regular season finale to Gryphons

In their final home game of the regular season, the Lancer women's basketball team dropped a 64-51 decision to the Guelph Gryphons at the Toldo Lancer Centre.

Prior to tip-off the Lancers honoured graduating senior Sophia Kennedy, who was joined by her parents who made the trip from New Zealand for her final regular season game with the blue nd gold.

STATS
Leading the Lancers was Vanessa Budimunda who racked up 15 total points and 11 rebounds, while Mya Iriah contributed 7 total points.

The visitors MacKeely Shantz knocked down 22 points and 3 steals to lead the Gryphons in the win.

GAME FLOW
In the opening frame, the Lancers got off to a quick start as Budimunda grabbed the first basket of the game just ten seconds in. The lead didn't last long as Guelph jumped out in front and led for the remainder of the frame. Windsor was done by just one, 16-15, after the first ten minutes.

The second quarter saw the blue and gold slowly work their way back yet another Guelph steal sent Windsor into a quick timeout as head coach Chantel Vallee needed some time to develop a better strategy to contain the Gryphons. With two minutes remaining, Guelph continued to add to their scoring while Windsor struggled to convert. Windsor was down 37-23 at the half.

As Guelph continued to pull away in the second half, the blue and gold triggered a slow come back but were still down 50-37 after the third.

In the fourth Kali Grootenboer hit six straight points and the Lancers made it a ten point game, but the clock was not on their side as their comeback was cut short.
