Lancers take game one against Brock

The No. 9 Lancer men's hockey team came out with a 3-1 win over the Brock Badgers in game one of the OUA quarter-finals, Thursday night in St. Catharines, ON.

Windsor now leads the best-of-three series 1-0 heading into game two on Saturday.

STATS
Jaydon Fetter and Barrett Dachyshyn each scored for the Lancers, while Grant Spence added an empty net insurance marker in the final seconds of the contest. Goaltender Nathan Torchia had a strong performance making 25 saves out of 26 shots faced.

Adam Berg contributed the Badgers lone goal.

GAME FLOW
The Badgers took an early penalty just twenty seconds into the game and the Lancers capitalized on the opportunity. Jaydon Fetter scored forty-three seconds later to put the visitors up 1-0. Brock increased their pressure on the Lancers but the blue and gold tightened up their defense, holding down the blue line and preventing the Badgers from entering the Lancer zone. Windsor led 1-0 heading into the break.

In the second period, Grant Spence would drop the puck back to Barrett Dachyshyn who broke through the slot put the puck behind Brock goaltender Roman Basran and lift the Lancers to a 2-0 lead. The Badgers made multiple attempts to get past Torchia, but the Lancers held them off and led by two heading into the final period.

Brock did not waste any time to start the third, making it a one goal game less than a minute into the frame when Adam Berg tipped in a pass from Justin Brack. Brock pulled Basran in the final minutes in an attempt to tie the game, but Spence fired the puck down the ice for the insurance marker.
