Men's Hockey doubles up on Warriors

The Windsor Lancer men's hockey team earned a 3-2 victory over the visiting Waterloo Warriors on Saturday afternoon at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.

The win moves the blue and gold to 18-4-3 and remain in first place in the OUA west division.

STATS
Grant Spence contributed two goals to lead the way offensively for the Lancers while Nic Pavia and Barrett Dachyshyn also scored a goal each. In the net, Nathan Torchia had an outstanding game stopping 17 out of 19 shots.

The Warriors' Nolan Lee and Dan Walker picked up a goal each while goalie, Dan Murphy made 15 saves.

GAME FLOW
To start the game, the Lancers came onto the ice with determination and made themselves an offensive challenge for the Warriors early on. Wasting no time, Keegan McMullen sent one to Grant Spence who directed the puck straight past Murphy to put the Lancers up 1-0, six minutes into the period. The Warriors tied the game at 17:28 with a goal from Nolan Lee, and then with two seconds remaining in the period, Spence would notch his second goal of the game and put the Lancers up 2-1 heading into intermission.

In the second period, Waterloo looked to apply the pressure on Windsor's defense while the Lancers would try to hold onto their lead. Two minutes into the period, Dan Walker would find the net to tie the score again, 2-2. As the blue and gold battled for puck possession, the Warriors continued to search for scoring opportunities past Torchia, but he was able to clear the traffic. As the Warriors would finally earn a powerplay opportunity, the Lancers put in a valiant effort to shut the door and keep Waterloo out. Windsor and Waterloo finished off the period tied up 2-2.

The Lancers started the final period on the power play but weren't able to convert. Following a few more unsuccessful scoring opportunities, the Lancers finally lit up the lamp. Pavia scored his first goal of the season with the eventual game winner. In the final minute, Barrett Dachyshyn contributed the last goal into an empty netter to end the period.
