Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lancers split weekend with Mustangs

The Windsor Lancer women's soccer team went head-to-head with the Western Mustangs on Friday (2-0) and Sunday (0-1) this weekend.

With the split, the Lancers are now 3-1-1 on the season and sit in third place in the OUA west division.

HOW IT HAPPENED FRIDAY
The blue and gold put on quite the performance for the Lancer family Friday night at Alumni Field. While the first half of the match saw no score, teams were determined to set the tone for the weekend's doubleheader by battling for possession in the midfield. Midfielder Emma Beaulieu was a force to be reckoned with, corralling the ball from the Mustangs left and right to set up the Lancers' counterattack.

In the second half, Kailyn Roberston cracked the double goose eggs in the 53rd minute by sneaking around Western's goalkeeper to rack up her 6th goal of the season.

The women were relentless with their offensive pressure in the second frame as they sought to fight off the Mustangs and extend their lead. At the midnight hour, Faith Akinkuade had a strike to earn her first tally of the season. This was the first time since 2011 that Lancer women's soccer earned the full three points against Western.

Overall, the match saw the Lancers hold a strong back force where Kat Campana had a stand-out performance, sweeping Lancer territory clear of the Mustangs' attack. Lancer goalkeeper Jordan Samping also stood on her head to earn a shutout victory for the Lancers on home turf.

HOW IT HAPPENED SUNDAY
On Sunday, the blue and gold hit the road to London for an afternoon showing at Mustang Field.

While both teams came out of the gate hungry for three points, Western managed to chalk up a point in the 12th minute of play. The Lancers were left trailing by one for the remainder of the game, ultimately splitting points in a 1-1 series with the Mustangs this weekend.
