Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey drops two on the road

The Windsor Lancers men's hockey team fell to the Trois-Rivières Patriotes (5-1) and McGill Martlets (4-3 OT) after a weekend on the road.

FRIDAY STATS
Assisted by David Jesus, Holden Wale broke the goose egg on the board for the Lancers in the third frame, scoring with 16:02 left on the clock.
Nathan Torchia also turned aside 53 shots while occupying the Lancer net on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED FRIDAY
The Windsor Lancers men's hockey team opened their 2024 debut on the road against Québec à Trois-Rivières. While the first period saw no score, the Trois-Rivières managed to put up two in the second. In the final frame, teams exchanged goals early, making the score 3-1 about halfway through the period. For the Lancers, Holden Wale capitalized on a shot from the point to get the blue and gold on the board. Despite a valiant effort, UQTR squeaked in 2 more to close out the night, resulting in the Lancers falling to the Patriotes 5-1.

SATURDAY STATS
Lancers potted a pair of points in the second period by the offensive efforts of Mason Kohn and Dylan Schives. In the third, Brady Hinz contributed to the effort with the tying tally, pushing the game to OT. Nathan Torchia also saved 44 shots from the Lancer goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED SATURDAY
On Saturday the men continued their road trip to McGill University. The Martlets opened the scoring, putting up one on the power play and a second with four minutes left in the first frame. The second period saw action on both sides of the ice. While McGill added a third tally, the Lancers found their groove with Mason Kohn and Dylan Schives each burying one to leave the men trailing by one goal heading into the third period.

Windsor kept up their momentum in the third with Brady Hinz securing the equalizer and Nathan Torchia putting in work between the pipes to lead the team to overtime. After a hard-fought battle, a 4-on-3 powerplay goal by the Martlets would decide the game and leave the Lancers without a win on their weekend in Quebec.

UP NEXT
The men return to Windsor next weekend for back-to-back home games against the TMU Bold Friday and Toronto Varsity Blues Saturday, each at 7:30 pm. Tickets for the game are available in advance at GoLancers.ca/tickets. For those unable to attend in person at the Capri Pizzeria Complex, the game will also be streamed on OUA.tv.
