Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's hockey wins two straight

The Lancer women's hockey team had a stellar week defeating the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and Nipissing Lakers. Windsor defeated the Ridgebacks 2-0 on Thursday, and the Lakers 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

With the victories, the Lances are now 2-2 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED THURSDAY
The blue and gold hosted a rare game at 12:00pm on Thursday afternoon and welcomed 500 local students from around the Windsor community.

Windsor did not disappoint the energetic crowd, shutting out the visiting Ridgebacks in their home opener.

The blue and gold capitalized on special teams, with Phoebe Gao breaking the deadlock early in the second period on a power play, scoring just 1:19 into the frame. The Lancers extended their lead to 2-0 late in the second period when Ilena Ricker-Singh scored with only nine seconds left.

HOW IT HAPPENED SATURDAY
Windsor jumped on the board early in the opening period with captain Maggie Peterson's first goal of the season. Windsor held the one goal lead heading into the second when Bridget Cameron netted her first goal as a Lancers to put the blue and gold up by two with 13 minutes left in the period.

The Lakers would cut the Lancers lead in half just before the break and the game remained a one goal contest until late in the third period. The Lakers pulled their goaltender in favour of the extra attacker, allowing Peterson to score not one, but two, empty net goals to secure the Lancer victory.
