Windsor Basketball opens season with pair of losses

The Lancer men's basketball team fell to each of the capital city rivals on the road this weekend. On Friday, the men endured an 85-65 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Then on Saturday, the Lancers fell to the Carleton Ravens 96-66.
 
FRIDAY STATS
Three players hit double figures on the night: Simeon Smith, Yohann Sam, and Lorenzo Barbieri with 13, 13, and 12 points respectively.
 
The men shot 41.9% from the floor and 42.1% from the charity line. Yashar Greaves-Saadat earned 6 assists and Segun Akin-Akinbulumo earned 9 rebounds on the night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED FRIDAY
Teams went point-for-point in the opening quarter as fans saw a 24-27 score.
 
However, in the second frame Ottawa gained ground over the Lancers. The Gee-Gees ended the half with fans on their feet, scoring a buzzer beater from the center-court logo to make the score 32-53.
 
The blue and gold tightened things up in the third. Teams exchanged points, earning 16 and 17 respectively.
 
Despite another closely contested quarter, the lead gained by the Gee-Gees in the second quarter would hold, ending the night with the Lancers trailing by 20 points.
 
SATURDAY STATS
Sam led the Lancer charge, putting up 19 points on the night. Sam went 3-for-3 at the 3-point arc.
 
Smith was not far behind, scoring 17 points. The men shot 43.9% from the floor and 47.6% from the free throw line.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED SATURDAY
The Carleton Ravens took the reins early, outscoring the Lancers 25-13 in the opening frame.
It was a similar scene in the second and third quarters, where the Ravens scored 22 and 26 over the Lancer's doubled 16 points.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Lancers gave a final push. However, their efforts would ultimately leave the squad to fall short, ending the night with a 96-66 loss.
 
UP NEXT
The Lancers continue their campaign on the road. On Friday, November 1st, the men travel to Kingston to play the Queen's Gaels at 8:00pm. Then, on Saturday, November 2nd, the blue and gold take it to Oshawa to battle against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at 6:00pm.
