Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Windsor victorious over Northeastern teams

The women's basketball team hosted a pair of teams from the northeastern part of the province on Friday and Saturday evening at the Toldo Lancer Centre.

On Friday the Lancers defeated the Laurentian Voyageurs 64-51 before earning a second straight victory on Saturday with a 71-56 win over the Nipissing Lakers.

WEEKEND STATS
On Friday Leah Tate and Julia Chiarot both led the way offensively for the Lancers with 11 points each in the winning contest.

Meanwhile on Saturday Chiarot followed up with an impressive 20-point performance while Kali Grootenboer had 14 points and Tate added another 12 to her productive weekend offensively.

FRIDAY GAME FLOW
The Lancers found themselves outpaced by the Voyageurs in the first quarter with a 14-11 lead in favour of the visitors.

Another 14 points were added to Laurentian's total, but Windsor would find their offensive spark to chip in another 19 points to their total in the quarter to go up 30-28 at half time.

In the third quarter the Lancers outscored the Voyageurs 12-10 and found themselves in control of the contest narrowly at 42-38.

In the fourth quarter Windsor exploded offensively with a 22-13 scoring run which gave them the opportunity to seal the deal with a 64-51 victory over the visitors.

SATURDAY GAME FLOW
The Lancers led 19-8 at the end of the first quarter on the Lakers before going on to produce 27 more points in the second quarter versus Nipissing's 20 added before the half with a 46-28 lead.

The Lakers found themselves continuing to be outworked by the blue and gold's offensive production in the third quarter before looking for an offensive surge in the fourth which was delivered with a 17-10 scoring run.

However, despite their best efforts late in the game the visitors from North Bay found themselves in a too little too late scenario as they remained behind on the board as the Lancers who were able to cruise to a 71-56 victory on home court to improve to 7-3 on the campaign.

UP NEXT
The Lancers will be back in action again next weekend when they host the Brock Badgers on November 30th at the TLC for a 6:00pm tipoff.  The game will also be livestreamed on OUA.Tv for basketball fans to watch live from outside the venue.
