Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Lancers close out fall with split in Toronto

The Lancer women's hockey team travelled up to Toronto this weekend to take on the Toronto Varsity Blues and TMU Bold.

On Friday night the blue and gold fell in a 2-0 loss to the Blues but managed to rebound the next day at TMU with a 1-0 shootout win over the Bold.

WEEKEND STATS
Elizabeth Coleman scored the shootout winner for Windsor on Saturday in the win over TMU.

Meanwhile in goal Cadence Petitclerc made 25 saves on Friday in the loss to Toronto.

On Saturday Rebecca Noble turned aside all 35 shots faced along with three shootout attempts from the Bold to secure the win for the blue and gold.

FRIDAY GAME FLOW
Toronto opened the scoring at 5:57 of the first period when Scout Watkins-Southward found the back of the net to make it 1-0 Varsity Blues on Windsor.

The second goal of the game came as an insurance marker later in the second period at the 12:08 mark when Toronto's Aili McKeown snuck one past Petitclerc to make it 2-0 Varsity Blues.

The double up lead by the hosts remained intact right up until the final buzzer as Windsor found themselves unable to solve Toronto's goaltender Lyla McKinnon who stopped all 22 shots thrown her way to secure a shutout win over Windsor to spoil the first part of the Lancers' road trip in the provincial capital.

SATURDAY GAME FLOW
The next day the goaltenders shined the brightest in their creases managing to stay solid between the pipes throughout the 60-minute duration of regulation play.

With two walls in goal between Noble and TMU's Alexia Stratos, both netminders would find themselves looking to backstop their teams to potential victory in a dramatic shootout finish as goose eggs stayed up on the scoreboard after overtime was meaningless.

The Lancers peppered Stratos with 34 shots before while Noble again turned away 35 shots faced going into the shootout to solve the contest.

Emily Baxter shot first for TMU but failed to beat Noble.  Coleman then scored as the first shooter for Windsor.  Mia Morano missed for the Bold but that was followed up by a miss from Elissa Benjamin who was stopped.

With the game on the line for TMU Ahalya Julien-Medeiros could not find a way to get one past Noble who stood tall and earned the hard-fought shootout victory for the visiting Lancers who now wrap up the fall semester with an 8-7 record including the recent shootout win.
