Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women’s Hockey Wins Two at Home

The Windsor Lancers Women's hockey team kicked off the 2025 season with a bang, notching two thrilling victories at home against the division leading Warriors, and Varsity Blues.

STATS

On Friday, Emily Eikelboom tallied a score and an assist for the blue and gold, while Maggie Peterson pushed another past the goalie. In overtime, Maggi DeWolf-Russ buried the clincher for the Lancers, sending the gold and black packing. Cadence Petitclerc put aside 27 shots while securing the win.

On Saturday, the blue and gold took full advantage of penalties to the tune of four power play goals. 2 were sunk by Elissa Benjamin, while the other two came from Dewolf-Russ and Peterson, while Petitclerc turned away another 27 shots to grab her second win of 2025.

FRIDAY GAME FLOW

The first few minutes of the game played out across both ends, before Waterloo opened up the scoring with a shot by Nikki Mcdonald. It took all of 18 seconds for the Lancers to answer, as Maggie Peterson responded with an unassisted goal to knot the game up.

A third of the way through the second period, Emily Eikelboom notched the Lancers second goal with a pass from Ilena Ricker-Singh. The blue and gold would carry the lead through a penalty filled period, and into the third before the Warriors evened the score on the power play. This would carry through till the clock hit zero, giving us overtime.

Just over three minutes later, the Lancers found themselves in the lead as Maggi DeWolf-Russ buried the finisher into the back of the Waterloo net, seeing them take down the OUA West Division leaders.

SATURDAY GAME FLOW

Coming off the thrilling victory the previous night, the Lancers carried that momentum forward against Toronto. Utilizing the power play, it took less than two minutes for DeWolf-Russ to sink the opener past the Varsity Blues. A second power play goal towards the end of the period saw the Lancers take a commanding 2-0 lead early in the tilt.

The second frame saw Toronto fire back on their own separate set of power plays, pushing two goals past Petitclerc to tie the score at 2 as they headed into the final period. There, the Lancers made power plays the name of the game, as they converted two more to make them 4/5 with the upper hand on the night, and pulling out with a 4-2 victory.
