Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lancers entered game two of the best-of-three series against the Guelph Gryphons seeking a win to push the round to game three.
Â
The first period saw teams battle back and forth across the ice. Each times had solid defensive efforts, each looking to not give up the first marker of the night. The frame ended with a pair of goose eggs on the board, leaving teams hungry to sway the momentum in the second period.
Â
In the second, fans saw 1:14 of a 5-on-3 for the blue and gold. Despite a solid effort by
Elizabeth Coleman, a defensive stick blocked the puck from crossing the goal line. Then, the Gryphons potted two with a neutral zone break out and wrist shot at the 6:25 and 2:36 minute marks to lead by two going into the final frame.
Â
The Lancers tried to teeter the seesaw in the final period to bridge the gap on the scoreboard. While the blue and gold had a power play and pulled Swiatoschik out of the cage to create more offensive pressure, Guelph secured their place in the next round of playoffs by scoring an empty netter with 4:08 to go.
