The Lancer women's hockey team hosted the Toronto Varsity Blues for the first time this season Saturday night, dropping a 4-1 decision.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Teams played a clean first period, leaving no players to the sin bin on either side. The Varsity Blues also managed to pot two in the first frame.

Just over halfway through the second period, Toronto went on the penalty kill for a cross checking penalty. The blue and gold capitalized on the power play, where
Jessica Gribbon pounced on a bounce from
Jessica Legault to put the Lancers to a one-goal deficit. Later, with less than a minute to go in the second, Abby Howland scored for the Varsity Blues to grant each team one marker in the period.

Fans saw another closely contest period in the third round. It wasn't until there were less than 5 minutes remaining that the Varsity Blues closed out the night with a powerplay goal to return to Toronto with a 4-1 win over the Lancers.

The Lancers remain at home next week. On Thursday, the women host the Waterloo Warriors at 7:30pm. Then, on Saturday, the blue and gold return to home ice to take on the Brock Badgers at 4:00pm.
