Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Comartin scores four; Lancers dominate Algoma

The Lancer women's soccer team dominated in an outing against the Algoma Thunderbirds Friday evening. The Lancers saw great offensive success, capturing a 12-0 statement win in front of a home crowd at Alumni Stadium.

Second-year striker Avery Comartin led the charge offensively boasting four goals on the night. Goalkeeper Izzy Barrette also had a standout performance, securing her first shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPPENED
A tic-tac-toe passing play got the ball rolling for the blue and gold Friday night. Olivia Corazza secured the first goal by finding the net's lower right corner. Then, Kailyn Robertson capitalized on a cross from Comartin in the 9th minute to double the score.

In the 39th minute, Comartin blasted off with a 40-yard charge, where she sealed the deal with light tap to the right of the Algoma goalkeeper. Not to be outdone, Vanessa Corry had fans' jaws on the floor as she hit a corner curler in the 43rd minute, marking the Lancer's 4th tally before halftime.

The second half began just like the first as the Lancers buried two in less than 10 minutes. First, Brooke MacLeod jumped on a rebound. Then, Faith Akinkuade passed a slider to Comartin in the box.

The magic on the field was not done there, however. Comartin used her speed earn a hat-trick in the 54th minute.

Dynamic duo Akinkuade and Comartin returned to the spotlight in the 65th minute, where Comartin tallied her fourth on the night and fifth so far this season. Then, two minutes later Akinkuade marked one of her own off a cross from MacLeod.

In the 74th and 78th minutes, Emma Beaulieu and Avery Ward joined the party with timely taps in the 18-yard box. Finally, Olivia Corazza topped off the night with a direct kick goal in the 80th minute.
