The Lancer softball team went 2-0 on Alumni weekend in nail biting games against the OUS powerhouse Western Mustangs and now sit in second place in the West Division with just two weeks remaining in the regular season. The blue & gold defeated the Mustangs 8-7 in the first game and 9-8 in the second game.

GAME ONE
In game one of the rivalry series against the Mustangs, Western capitalized on an error to score early in the 1st inning. The Lancers responded in the 3rd with a
Cylee Hickey double and an
Emma Hanley homerun to make the score 2-1 for the blue & gold. Western responded with some offense of their own to regain the lead and put them up 4-2 heading into the latter half of the game.

The Lancers continued working hard and got one back with hits from
Ella Duncan-Reda and
Jacqueline Pento to shrink the Mustang lead back to 1 run. In the bottom of the 6th inning,
Lauren Hickey and
Emma Hanley contributed to tie the game at four. The Mustangs took the lead back in the 7th, but the blue & gold responded immediately by taking advantage of some Western defensive errors and timely hitting to tie the game at the end of regulation.

In extra innings, each team traded a run in the 8th to bring forward another extra inning. With the Mustangs scoring in the top of the 9th, the Lancers had to score to keep the game alive. An absolute bomb from pinch hitter
Allison Dufour put the Lancers ahead 8-7 to win the game in walk-off fashion!

Jayde Melhuish-McGahan earned the win from the mound, pitching the entire nine innings and only giving up seven hits and three earned runs while striking out nine batters.

GAME TWO
Windsor came out in game two of the double header with hot bats and charged to an early three run lead in the 1st inning with hits from
Soleen DePape,
Allison Dufour, and
Jacqueline Pento. A huge 3rd inning for Western allowed them to take the lead 5-3. The blue & gold wanted their lead back and responded with singles from
Lauren Hickey,
Ella Duncan-Reda, and
Emma Hanley to put them up 6-5.

The battle continued as Western's strong offense allowed them to regain the lead 8-6 heading into the last couple of innings. The Lancers weren't done yet and had a huge 7th inning with hits from
McKay Colombe,
Soleen DePape, and
Jayde Melhuish-McGahan to complete the comeback and win their second game of the day.

Allison Dufour got the start for the blue & gold and pitched five innings with five earned runs.
Jayde Melhuish-McGahan came in in relief for the Lancers to close the game with two hits given up over two innings to earn the win.
