The Windsor Lancer men's basketball team split the weekend in Waterloo against the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks.
FRIDAY STATS
Luke Grace and Yohann Sam lead the Lancer effort, scoring 18 and 16 points respectively.
Simeon Smith, Emanuel Otong, and Lorenzo Barbieri also put up double figures, scoring 14, 12, and 11 points respectively.
Sam and Smith each earned 8 rebounds on the floor.
The team went 53.3% from the free throw line and 44.3% from the floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED FRIDAY
The Lancers edged out the Warriors in each of the opening quarters. The men outworked Waterloo 20-14 in the first, and then 19-13 in the second.
The Lancers then turned up the dial in the second half, dominating on both ends of the floor. Windsor outscored Waterloo by 8 in the third and 6 in the fourth, finishing the night with an impressive 26-point victory.
SATURDAY STATS
Sam led the Lancer effort with an impressive 28-point performance.
Smith added 18 points, while Grace controlled the paint with 17 rebounds.
In all, the men shot 78.9% from the charity line and 39.1% from the floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED SATURDAY
Saturday was a tightly contested battle from the tip-off. Teams each scored 22 points in the opening quarter. The blue and gold excelled at the charity line, going 5-for-5.
The men went into halftime with a 6-point lead after outworking the Golden Hawks 20-14 in the second frame.
After the break, Laurier brought a renewed energy. They bridged the gap and in the third quarter and pulled ahead by 4 points.
In the final quarter, Laurier held onto their momentum, outscoring the blue and gold 24-13 to steal an 88-73 win.
UP NEXT
The blue and gold return home next weekend. On Friday, the men play the York Lions at 8:00 pm at the Toldo Lancer Centre. Then, on Saturday, the Lancers will battle against the Guelph Gryphons at 6:00 pm for the annual Shoot for Change game.
