The Windsor Lancer men's basketball team traded wins this weekend at home. On Friday, the Lancers secured a hard-fought 87-78 victory over the York Lions. On Saturday, however, the blue and gold dropped a 71-83 decision to the Guelph Gryphons.
FRIDAY STATS
Yohann Sam led the Lancer offensive effort with an impressive 31 points. He went 13-for-13 at the free throw line and 6-for-9 from the arc.
Emanuel Otong, Simeon Smith, and Segun Akimbulumo each hit double figures, scoring 17, 15, and 14 points respectively.
Akimbulumo also tallied an impressive 10 rebounds on the night.
In all, the men went 82.6% from the free throw line and 43.5% from the floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED FRIDAY
The Lancers had a strong opening, building a lead as large as 11 points and scoring nearly 30 points in the frame. However, York clawed back in the second quarter, narrowing the gap to just three points at halftime (46-43).
The third quarter remained a tight contest, with Windsor outscoring York 19-18. The game's outcome ultimately came down to the final quarter, where the Lancers delivered a 22-point effort to secure a late 9-point victory.
SATURDAY STATS
Sam again topped the Lancer's offensive statistics, scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Otong was not far behind, tallying 21 points and 7 rebounds.
Smith also had a strong outing, hitting 11 points and 6 rebounds.
Overall, the team went 50.0% from the charity line and 38.2% from the floor.
HOW IT HAPPENED SATURDAY
The game started with both teams trading baskets in the first quarter. The Lancers surged ahead in the second, outpacing the Gryphons to build a 45-33 lead at halftime.
However, the Gryphons bounced back in the third quarter, tying the score at 61 before the final frame. Guelph carried this momentum into the fourth, edging out the Lancers 83-71.

The men will travel to Sault Ste. Marie for a double header against the Algoma Thunderbirds next weekend. The blue and gold play on Friday, January 24 at 8:00pm and Saturday, January 25 at 5:00pm.
